  • Punished for Poverty: How Credit Scores Keep Families Homeless & Perpetuate Poverty

Coming Soon: Credit scores were designed to predict credit risk—not determine whether someone deserves a place to live. Yet for struggling families, a low score can become a powerful barrier to housing stability and financial recovery. This article examines how credit screening can lead to repeated rental denials, higher security and utility deposits, high-interest borrowing, costly fees, and fewer quality housing options; how these added costs can force families to choose between paying rent, keeping the electricity on, buying food, or covering other basic needs; and how a system that makes poverty more expensive can deepen housing insecurity, increase the risk of eviction and homelessness, and make long-term stability even harder to achieve.

  • The Myth of "Breaking the Cycle": Why Education Doesn't Guarantee Economic Mobility

Coming Soon: Society often tells people that education is the pathway out of poverty. While education can create opportunity, it does not eliminate the systemic barriers and institutional inequities that continue long after graduation. This article examines how labor market discrimination, limited professional networks, caregiving responsibilities, geographic constraints, and financial instability shape economic mobility and family stability; how these barriers affect parents, children, and future generations; and why expanding educational access alone cannot address the structural conditions that continue to shape opportunity after graduation.

“I understand how public systems impact the everyday lives of women, children, and families — and I use that understanding to help organizations build stronger programs, improve accountability, and create meaningful, lasting impact.”
